About Nilaya

A Workplace That Understands Its Pay Slip Is a Confident Workplace

Nilaya was founded on a straightforward belief: when employees understand the financial basics of their working lives, they show up more settled, more focused and more engaged.

Our Story

Built for HR Teams in Malaysian Businesses

Nilaya grew out of conversations with HR managers in Johor Bahru who were watching staff struggle — not with their roles, but with the paperwork and planning that surrounded their salaries. Pay slips left unread. EPF statements filed away without being opened. Budgets that fell apart every time an irregular expense appeared.

The founding team identified a gap: there was plenty of generic personal finance content available, but nothing structured as a proper workplace programme that HR could plan around, report on and scale across a team. Nilaya was established to fill that space — with programmes built specifically for the B2B context and delivered as general education, not regulated advice.

Operating from our Johor Bahru base, we work with organisations across Malaysia — from single-session wellbeing additions to full staff curriculum rollouts. Every programme is grounded in practical workplace literacy: the kind of knowledge employees can apply the same week they receive it.

Our Mission

To make financial literacy a standard part of Malaysian workplace wellbeing — delivered clearly, without jargon and in a way that treats every employee as a capable adult.

Our Approach

We design every programme around the real financial context of a working person in Malaysia: salary structures, EPF contributions, SOCSO, pay cycles, leave entitlements and everyday budgeting. Content is adapted for the specific audience — not repurposed from off-the-shelf material.

Our Commitment

All content remains within the boundaries of general education. No regulated financial advice, no product recommendations, no outcomes suggested. Employees receive knowledge and frameworks — what they do with them is entirely their own decision.

Standards

How We Maintain Programme Quality

Every Nilaya programme follows a structured quality framework — from content development through to post-programme HR reporting.

Content Review Protocol

All session materials are reviewed before each delivery to reflect current Malaysian workplace norms — including EPF rates, SOCSO categories and any relevant changes to statutory deductions.

Facilitator Briefing

Each programme is preceded by a structured facilitator briefing using information supplied by the client's HR team — ensuring sessions reflect the specific employment context of the staff attending.

Participant Data Privacy

We do not collect or store individual participant financial data. Attendance and feedback are handled in aggregate, and all data management follows Malaysian PDPA requirements.

HR Summary Reporting

A written programme summary is prepared after each engagement, structured to support HR documentation requirements and internal staff wellbeing reporting processes.

Post-Programme Feedback

Anonymous participant feedback is collected at the end of each session. Results inform future content adjustments and are summarised in the HR report provided to the client.

Adult Learning Principles

Programme design follows established adult learning frameworks — practical application, relevant examples and session pacing that respects participants' working schedules and prior knowledge.

Our Values

What Guides the Work We Do

Nilaya operates with the understanding that workplace financial knowledge is a staffing issue as much as a personal one. When an employee is distracted by financial uncertainty — not understanding their deductions, unsure how their leave affects their pay, unclear about what their annual statement means — that distraction has a cost to the organisation as well as to the individual. Financial literacy training is, in that sense, an operational investment with a human dimension.

Our programmes are designed with restraint. We cover what employees need to know to feel competent in their financial lives as working adults in Malaysia. We do not venture into areas that would require regulated advice, and we do not make claims about what participants should do with what they learn. That is not our role. Our role is to ensure the knowledge is clear, accurate and genuinely usable.

Working in Johor Bahru, we are close to the manufacturing, logistics, shared-service and trade networks that form the backbone of southern Malaysia's commercial landscape. That proximity shapes how we think about our programmes. The employees attending a Nilaya session are real working people with real pay slips, real EPF accounts and real financial decisions to make. The content we develop is built around that reality — not adapted from generic material produced for a different context.

We value transparency in how we work. Pricing is shared upfront. Programme scope is agreed in writing before delivery begins. HR teams are given a clear picture of what they will receive and when. We believe that the same clarity we encourage employees to bring to their financial lives should be present in every aspect of how we operate as an organisation.
